We follow BSAC’s training programme which has several levels:
- Experience Snorkelling
- Dolphin Snorkeller
- Snorkel Diver
- Advanced Snorkeller
- Snorkel Dive Marshall
More details of BSAC Snorkel Training are explained here:
The club training is based on progressing through a series of “learning how to” exercises in the pool and open water. We cover a range of skills including fitting and using equipment, fin swimming, surface diving, self-help and rescue. Once students are confident in the pool we go to open water such as a lake or the sea to learn how to enjoy snorkelling safely. Open water lessons include entries and exits, search, using a compass. The lessons also include diving from boats using our own club boat.
We also have theory lessons to complement the practical sessions in the pool. These cover safety, snorkelling sites, using charts, tides and the physics and biology of snorkelling. Progression is designed to be at each student’s own pace.
We also regularly run skills development courses including Snorkel Lifesaver awards which includes rescue, resuscitation and first aid.
Snorkellers should bring their Qualification Record Books to every session and get it signed by your instructor each time you complete a test. If possible, keep your Log Book in a waterproof plastic bag or case.
